The advice I would give to someone writing their first scientific paper is to find a scientific topic that first will interest them and to figure out what they want to argue reqarding the subject and to come up with three things that will support their position. They should also be aware of plagarism and be advised how critical it is to give credit to their sources.
They will need to make time to research the subject and to be sure they make plenty of time for this and to try using note cards using numbers to identify what reference goes to what note card. For instance I would make out reference cards with all the information and number then jot down useful information on note cards with the number on top from which source it came from. Why? Because if you don't do this you will waste a lot of time going back and forth in books or notes and can become quite an irritation.
Then once they have done some research they will need to brainstorm ideas that will be coordinated into the paper by using a list, informal outline, bubblling, or just simply writing down questions. Now that brainstorming is done you will have an idea about where you want your paper to go and what you want to include.
The next step is writing an outline and this is going to be a map to the success of writing the rough draft.
Now write the rough draft inluding the intro, thesis, and follow outline with main ideas followed by supporting evidence and then complete the conclusion and of course references. After this you will want to revise and edit the rough draft by looking for grammar, typos, punctuation and spelling mistakes. Not only this check citations are they correct and read paper aloud to see if it flows, and wheter or not each paragraph flows intor the next one.
Once all of these steps are done fix the nooks and cranies and then it is complete.
It is a timely process but if you stay organized and make time to do things logically instead of trying to rush through it will make things much easier on you.
Well this is what I would tell someone when writing a scientific paper.
Hope you all do well this is the last blog post and and last week of the term so I hope you all have enjoyed this class as much as I have and best of luck to you all,
Honey

Unit 9: How do you feel about writing at this point? Has your idea of writing changed throughout the course?
Hello Everyone,
After taking this class and reading a lot of the reading and getting to know and learn the writing process has been awesome. I feel like I have benefited a lot from this class. I really like to write and I have even thought about writing a novel about my crazy life. Seriously. Ha ha ha know it sounds silly but I have thought of this. I keep a journal as well and write an entry at the end of the night unless I doze off.
I think my idea of writing has changed a lot throughout the corse I have learned teqniques to help me become a better writer and the one thing I really took in this class is using brainstorming and informal outlines to help come up with ideas and to ask questions to find an answer for your paper. This is one thing I never did before and it really helped me with findind ideas to put into my paper so this was one great thing. I also liked the peer review and I learned a lot of new techniques and ideas from other students and of course Professor Julie!
Wow Julie is honestly the best instructor I have had so far at Kaplan! Julie is understanding, positive, helpful, nice, honest, smart, and very patient. I think her positive attitude and the way she pushed us all so positively and got us involved in seminar also helped me with this class and my writing.
At the beginning of this class I would have rated my writing at about a 5 now I think I am at an 8 I still have some problems but its nothing I can't work on and look forward to do so!
I hope you have all benefited as much as I have and I hope you all have a great week,
Honey

Unit 8: Do you plan to continue your blog even after the course?
Hello Everyone,
I have enjoyed using the blog for this class because I feel like it gives you a chance to view other classmates thoughts and/or views on things. This has been interesting and you can use this blog to chat to one another about class and help eachother with ideas or simply say hello. Although I enjoyed blogging this term I feel like I only get on to do what I need to for class and post to at least two to three peoples blogs. If I get bored I'll get on and read others too. Other than this I don't have a lot of time to just get on and blog. Lets face it we all have lots of homework, kids, housework, work, grocery shopping, seminars, church, and so much more that life has given us. Its just so hard to find time you know? Maybe once I have completed school I think I will start to blog again actually. I enjoy it and I think it is pretty cool.
I hopeyou are all having a good week so far and we are almost done with this term I can't believe it.

Unit 7: How do you feel about peer reviews? What have your experiences with them been like?
Hello Everyone,
I think peer review is a wonderful thing and more instructors should offer this when students will need to submit a research paper. Some people aren't the best at grammar, tend to write run on sentences, not catch spelling, repeat themselves or maybe something they wrote does not make sense. Imagine not having the opprotunity of having peers review your work to help you find these errors. You would not catch them and you would get dinged for all these things when you submit your final paper. This can be hurtful depending on the instructors grading process. Any assistance to perfect a paper to me is positive for everyone.
It can hurt your feelings at times yes. We all think we did our best work and when someone critisizes it this can make you feel bad in a sense but you have to remember that this is a positive thing. No one is perfect even people who write books make mistakes. Don't take things to heart when some one picks out things that are not right in your paper and appreciate the fact that they took the time to read your paper and wanted to help you by pointing these things out. You never know someone could have a great idea for you!
Have a great week everyone,

Unit 6: Share what you have personally been dealing with the last six weeks.
The beginning of the six weeks started off ok with school however the 5th and 6th week for me have been totally crazy! I have had family issues going on this week and almost lost my sister to drugs. Worst part of it all is that she has two beautiful boys that were taken by the state and put in foster care for 2 days. While I couldn't sleep at night frreaking out because I didn't know where they were or what kind of people they were with. I fought two days and missed work for two days and had hardly anytime to study or work on paper because of this issue. Finally after background checks house inspections and drug screening I have inherited my two nephews. Other than this slight bump the past six weeks have been fine I have more struggles with my other class rather than this one. The instructor is very hard to understand and it hurts me because when taking anatomy and physiology you really need to know what the instructor is saying especially if you can't understand something and need to ask questions. Rather than ask during seminar I ask by email and this has helped somewhat. I am almost done with my rough draft should be done with it by tomorrow night I hope all the kids will be here tomorrow may have to pull another all nighter tonight! I gotta do what I gotta do! Lord please give me the strength. Have a nice week,
Honey

Unit 5: How is school influencing my life at or up to this point.
Hello Eveyone,
At this point I would say that school is influencing my life in a very positive way by giving me something to work for and look forward to. Although it gets hard to keep school as my number one priority! Why? Life happens. I work full time, head home get dinner ready, clean dinner mess up, shower baby and I, go to seminar Monday and Thurdays, get baby to bed, do home work till various times of 12am to 2am, get up four and a half hours later and start over. Wow it doesn't seem like much but it is overwhelming. I didn't even include cleaning house, doing laundry, doctors visits, grocery shopping, hosting fundraisors for my son and when is there free time? Huh what is free time?
I have managed to keep in mind through out the stress of life that school is my influence for fighting the fight and getting through all of this. I realize it is hard and I NEVER expected a cake walk and I am thankful I have decided to go to school this will only make me stronger and I'll be living proof that you can do ANYTHING you put your mind to.
School is a huge influence in my life right now. I am going to be the first in my family to graduate from college and this motivated me to do well. I want my family and my son to be proud of me and most of MYSELF! I used to doubt myself in the past but now that I am in my third term managing to keep great grades and making the Deans list I don't doubt myself. I am so happy to be in school and the influence it has had on me so far. I have surprised myself, overcome fears of doubt, recieving good grades, and surviving the war of work, school and family!
I can honestly say school has been one of the most major influences on my life and once I am done it will be that much more influential for my life and my family.
:) I feel good now after writing this!
Hope you all have a nice week,
Honey

Unit 4 Plagirism
My feelings on plagirism are that it is wrong and very serious. I think at times people don't realize they are doing it and this is why people need to pay better attention. It is ok to use a quote from someone else but we must give them credit for it and use proper citation, and use references for their work. Other people may want to read the article, website or book of that reference to find out more information as well.
Many peolple use plagirism and I have seen this on a discussion board in another term and I knew it was plagirism because the article they posted as their own was one I used in reference on my own post. Many people do this because they are lazy and don't want to put in the work of researching themselves so they take advantage of other people studies, work and research as their own.
It is important to give those credit who have devoted their precious time and effort into whatever information or subject they have given out to the world for us to learn and read from. It is the right thing to do. I feel like plagirism has gotten worse over the years and now days there are data bases for teachers to check many websites to view to check for plagirism. This is a great tool so that these people can get spoken to and someone can tell them the seriousness of this action.

Unit 3
Hello Everyone,
My personal feelings and outlook on being an online student so far has been a positive experience. I must admit that it is a challenge to whip yourself in to online shape. You are your own boss when your taking online classes. It is very easy to slip away from your work or say ahh I'm not going to do this today I'm too busy. You have to teach yourself to go to class and spend time on homework and studying. It takes dedication, drive, and consistancy.
I feel ok with anonymity and we are able to contact eachother through email or aol messenger which is great. It would be great though at times to have a classmate who lives close by to be study buddies which I have been unable to find through out the three terms I have taken. Other then this I really don't think this is a problem many people are able to get to know eachother through letters, email so this is our way of communication.
I love the flexibility of online classes its not like going to on campus and you have to show up monday, wednesday and friday for an hour. You don't have to worry about drive time, gas expenses, kids or even your wardrobe. :) The flexibility gives you the power to set a schedule according to the time that is available around work, family, chores, errands, and just life in general. The flexibility is why I enrolled online and so far it has been the best decision I have made so far.
The self directed style of teaching has been great and I have not had any issues with how the classes are being tought or organized. I am currrently in a class and the directed style is fine how ever I have been having some issues understanding her speak when in seminar. It is affecting me because I spend so much time trying to figure out what the istructor is saying I lose focus on what she is talking about or explaining. It would be nice if there was like a voice generator system and at the end of seminar it would print out everything the instructor said in english text so this would not be an issue for me. I don't think any classes style has been too much or too little I think the system is working fine. I just don't get why most instructors require the two responses to students in discussion need to be on two different dates and your initial post. Things happen and we can't always be sure that we will have access to a computer or internet everyday. Things happen that can make it impossible to do so and I don't see the harm in posting them all on one day as you have three postings. This was the only thing I found odd, other than this every course I have taken has been well organized and the teaching styles have been great.
I think this blog is a great way to create a closer class community online, or even sharing a myspace url would be too. You can actually see eachother and get to chat with eachother outside of class and just get to know one another more. Is this really necessary? I belive it is up to the student; because some people would love to get to know other students and others may feel like they have too much going on to meet new people. I think this would be an optional route for the students but it would be neat.
I am so happy I have chosen online classes and I am happy with the outcome so far and I can't wait to be done!
Have good day all,
Honey

Keep on going!
This has been one busy week. This term began Wednesday for one so I have lots of homework. My best friend got married today and I was in wedding. Right now I'm in intermission from the wedding and will be leaving home in about 30 minutes to the reception. It is going to be a long night. It was so awful this morning due to the rain and running around trying to get my hair done for wedding in rain was not a fun task. I was up till 1:00am doing homework and woke up at 6:00am to get my son dressed and sent to grandmas so I could do what I had to for this wedding. I am due for some relaxation after this weekend. Life gets hectic with work, school, my son, family, and special events. What keeps me going? A question I ask myself at times. There is one answer and that is my son. I ask myself why I decided to go back to school with my son being so little. I did this so that he and I could live a better life and be a role model to him. I never thought it would be this hard. Sometimes I feel like I will die of sleep deprivation. (Laughing) Unfortunately, times get rough but we have to keep in mind the later out comes and all this stress and tiredness will be worth it in the long run.
Do you all agree? Does anyone else feel like giving up at times? What keeps you going?
Have a nice weekend all,
Honey
